How to Play Rust: From Naked Survivor to Apex Predator

Rust is an extremely challenging game. There’s no hand-holding, and learning often comes through brutal trial and error.

Essential First Steps (The Naked Spawn):

1. Gather Basic Resources: Immediately start hitting trees and rocks with your starting rock to get wood and stone.
2. Craft Basic Tools: Your first priorities are a Stone Hatchet (for faster wood gathering) and a Stone Pickaxe (for faster stone and eventually metal/sulfur ore).
3. Find Food & Water: Keep an eye on your hunger and thirst meters. Kill animals for meat (cook it at a campfire) or find berries and water sources.
4. Craft a Weapon: A Wooden Spear is your first basic weapon. Follow it up with a Hunting Bow and arrows for ranged combat.
5. Build a Starter Base: Even a small 1×2 or 2×2 wooden shack with a wooden door and a Tool Cupboard (TC) is vital. The TC prevents other players from building near your base and allows you to upkeep it with resources. Lock your door with a Key Lock or Code Lock immediately.
6. Find a Sleeping Bag: Deploying a sleeping bag allows you to respawn at your base. Place multiple sleeping bags in safe spots for strategic respawn options. Players can now pick up any sleeping bag if they are within TC range.
